Autobiographical Information
As the older of two children, I have spent most of my life within the Eaton County area. What did I want to be when I grew up? I wish I could say I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, but that wouldn’t be true. As a child, I wanted to be the typical lawyer or veterinarian. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to be a teacher assistant in a special education classroom during my high school years. That was when I knew that my job in life would be to become a special education teacher. I often reflect upon a poem that was given to me that reflects my view of this profession:
When people with cerebral palsy walk, and the blind
navigate with a cane, and someone with mental
impairments is employed and living semi-independently
in the community, when a once disturbed, out of
control youth has a wife and family and contributes to
the community, and a dyslexic child reads and writes,
that is when I know I have done my part.
~Laurence Lieberman
I think of myself as a very caring, giving, and patient individual. I look forward to many years as an educator. In addition, I will try my best each and every day and I expect that from those around me.
